Heart Health Month Health Tips

This month is heart health month. There are a few small but important changes you can make to your lifestyle in order to form heart healthy habits. Want to make it easier? Make these changes with a friend from your apartment in Roanoke.

No soda
Promise yourself to stop buying soda. All of those calories add up surprisingly fast. There are 150 calories in a can of Pepsi, and if you drink large fountain soda there are even more. To avoid excess sugar and calories, drink water instead.

Cook More
If health is important, start cooking your meals. This helps you lose weight too. Use fresh food too, the fewer processed foods you eat the healthier your diet will be.

Walk everywhere you can
To keep the weight off and improve heart health, walk more. Every little bit counts, but try to walk briskly for at least 40 minutes a day. How? Walks with the dog, with friends, walking to work or after dinner. Roanoke is a great walking city!

No scale
Don’t get on the scale! Your weight doesn’t matter, how you feel matters.  The objective is long-term health, not a number. Make healthy choices and lifestyle changes and the weight comes off by itself.
